Communtiy Storytelling and Archiving

Lede New Orleans’ Community Storytelling and Archiving program hosts free, public community events that center oral and traditional storytelling as foundational methods of documenting and preserving stories, and connecting to our communities.

Through activations like our Storylines event series, we partner with culture bearers and local storytellers to create intergenerational spaces where community members can listen and reflect in real time on narratives grounded in memory, place and tradition.

Our Community Storytelling and Archiving program supports community-led approaches to honoring the past and ensuring that our stories are carried forward through our own voices.

More About Community Archiving

The archiving component of the program works to demystify how histories are preserved and who decides what is remembered. We approach archives as acts of power, memory, and resistance. Through our free, public workshops and gatherings, community members can learn accessible ways to document their own stories and lived experiences, and build sustained archives that live beyond institutions and paper documents. Past workshops have covered ancestral forms of memory preservation like oral storytelling and altar building.
